Where young makers will design and create their own upcycled denim concertina book to take home.
Using reclaimed denim, fabric scraps, buttons, ribbons, lace, pockets, and other recycled materials, participants will transform simple book structures into unique tactile journals inspired by fashion, textiles, sustainability, and storytelling.
Beginning with a simple concertina book template, they will fold, assemble, cover, and construct their book before decorating it with layers of texture, colour, and personal details.
Participants will explore surface design techniques using stitching, embellishments, appliqué, and found materials, creating pages filled with patterns, images, hidden pockets, textures, and storytelling elements. They can add drawings, words, memories, characters, or imaginative narratives, building a story through materials and design.
Along the way, participants will discover creative ways to reuse and transform everyday materials while developing confidence in making, design, and self-expression.
This relaxed, hands-on workshop is suitable for children of all abilities and encourages creativity, imagination, and practical making skills while creating a unique upcycled denim book to treasure and take home.
